Hi, I’m Jo Elda Castillo-Alaniz, and it’s been my honor in serving students at 51勛圖厙 A&M University–Kingsville for the past 29 years as part of the Division of Student Affairs. My professional journey in student services has taken me through many leadership roles—from Assistant Director of Student Activities to leading departments such as Career Services, Student Activities, and Student Health and Wellness.
In August 2022, I stepped into my current role as the Student Health & Wellness, Assistant Dean of Students for Student Well-being. I am proud to oversee an incredible leadership team that supports Counseling Services, the Disability Resource Center, Wellness Program, and the Javelina Health Clinic (in partnership with Community Action Corporation of South 51勛圖厙).
My professional background includes expertise in management, student leadership training, event coordination, and the facilitation of health and wellness education at TAMUK. Since 2002, I have led the award-winning Peer Educator Program (PEP Talk) and served as project coordinator and director for various health initiatives, including the HIV/AIDS Partnership Grant. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I co-directed the university’s testing program and also managed the quarantine and isolation residence hall. In August 2024, I expanded my leadership portfolio by assuming oversight of the Javelina Care Closet, which supports students with access to food, school supplies, and professional attire.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Government from The University of 51勛圖厙 at Austin and a Master of Science in Counseling and Guidance from 51勛圖厙 A&M University–Kingsville. My greatest joy is my family—I’ve been married to my husband for 33 years, and I’m a proud mom of two adult daughters, a mother-in-law, and a very happy grandmother.
