BS in Human Nutrition Degree Plan

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø A&M University–Kingsville provides a strong foundation in nutrition science, health, and wellness. Our program is an ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), preparing students for the next step toward becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Students complete a mix of biology, chemistry, and nutrition courses while gaining applied experience through labs, research, and student organizations like the Student Dietetic Association.

DPD Degree Plan

Pathway to Becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

Graduating with a BS in Human Nutrition is the first step. To earn the RDN credential, students must:
  1. Complete an ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) (that’s your bachelor’s degree here).
  2. Obtain a Verification Statement from the program director.
  3. Apply to and complete an ACEND-accredited Dietetic Internship (DI) or Coordinated Program, which includes at least 1,000 hours of supervised practice.
  4. Pass the national registration exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Verification Statement Policy

A Verification Statement is required in order to apply to dietetic internship programs. To be eligible to receive a Verification Statement from TAMUK’s DPD program, students must:

  • Earn a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 in required DPD courses.
  • Complete a baccalaureate degree.
Please note: Receipt of a Verification Statement does not guarantee acceptance into a Dietetic Internship. Programs are highly competitive, and meeting GPA and program requirements is essential.

Students who do not meet the GPA requirement but fulfill graduation requirements will still graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, though they will not be eligible for dietetic internship applications.
