Our program is an ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), preparing students for the next step toward becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
Students complete a mix of biology, chemistry, and nutrition courses while gaining applied experience through labs, research, and student organizations like the Student Dietetic Association.
Pathway to Becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
Graduating with a BS in Human Nutrition is the first step. To earn the RDN credential, students must:- Complete an ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) (that’s your bachelor’s degree here).
- Obtain a Verification Statement from the program director.
- Apply to and complete an ACEND-accredited Dietetic Internship (DI) or Coordinated Program, which includes at least 1,000 hours of supervised practice.
- Pass the national registration exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
Verification Statement Policy
A Verification Statement is required in order to apply to dietetic internship programs. To be eligible to receive a Verification Statement from TAMUK’s DPD program, students must:
- Earn a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 in required DPD courses.
- Complete a baccalaureate degree.
Students who do not meet the GPA requirement but fulfill graduation requirements will still graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, though they will not be eligible for dietetic internship applications.
