Faculty & Staff Awards
The College of Arts & Sciences is currently accepting nominations for Faculty & Staff Awards. Awards will be issued in the categories listed below.
The Dean’s Award for Outstanding Leadership recognizes a faculty member who has provided extraordinary leadership contributions that advance the excellence of the department, college, and/or the university. The award is given to one faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional abilities to lead, serve, inspire and collaborate with broad impact.
To be eligible for the award, a faculty member must have served in an administrative capacity (Department Chair and/or Director) in the College of Arts & Sciences during the 2024 calendar year.
The Dean will make the final decision as to the recipient of the award. The award will be presented at an all-university event, and includes a $1,000.00 stipend to be used in the 2025-2026 academic year. The stipend can be used for travel or to purchase equipment/supplies that will lead to external funding, publications or creative presentations.
Nominations
Any Arts & Sciences faculty or staff member may nominate a department chair and/or director. Nominators are asked to submit a letter of nomination outlining specific rationale for the nomination.
Self –Nomination
Eligible individuals who choose to self-nominate are asked to submit the following:
- Current CV
- One-page personal narrative outlining specific rationale for the nomination
The College of Arts & Sciences recognizes teaching as the key element for achieving the strategic vision for the college. In support of this recognition, the College will present an award for a faculty member who has shown excellence in teaching and effective pedagogy for the 2024 calendar year. This includes activities that advance students to successful completion of their degrees and personal and professional growth.
A college awards committee will evaluate and rank all submitted applications. The Dean will make the final decision as to the recipient of the award. The award will be presented at an all-university event, and includes a $1,000.00 stipend to be used in the 2025-2026 academic year. The stipend can be used for travel or to purchase equipment/supplies that will lead to external funding, publications or creative presentations.
Eligibility: To be eligible for the award, a faculty member must have served in a full-time teaching capacity during the 2024 calendar year. All instructional ranks are eligible to apply.
Nominators: Any Arts & Sciences faculty or staff member may submit a nomination for eligible faculty members. Nominators are asked to submit a letter of nomination outlining specific rationale for the nomination.
Nominees: Individuals who are nominated are asked to submit the following:

- One-page personal narrative outlining teaching accomplishments for the 2024 calendar year

In support of this recognition, the College will present an award for a faculty member who has shown excellence in service to the department, college, institution and/or profession for the 2024 calendar year.
A college awards committee will evaluate and rank all submitted applications. The Dean will make the final decision as to the recipient of the award. The award will be presented at an all-university event, and includes a $1,000.00 stipend to be used in the 2025-2026 academic year. The stipend can be used for travel or to purchase equipment/supplies that will lead to external funding, publications or creative presentations.

The College of Arts & Sciences recognizes the scholarly and creative production of its faculty members, and the value that it adds to the institution. In support of this recognition, the College will present an award for a faculty member who has shown excellence in the areas of scholarly and creative production during the 2024 calendar year. Activities may include research, publication and/or creative activities and presentations.
A college awards committee will evaluate and rank all submitted applications. The Dean will make the final decision as to the recipient of the award. The award will be presented at an all-university event, and includes a $1,000.00 stipend to be used in the 2025-2026 academic year. The stipend can be used for travel or to purchase equipment/supplies that will lead to external funding, publications or creative presentations.
Eligibility: To be eligible for the award, a faculty member must have served as full-time faculty during the 2024 calendar year. All instructional ranks are eligible to apply.

- One-page personal narrative outlining scholarly and creative production accomplishments for the 2024 calendar year
The William J. Hall Faculty award is for the recognition, benefit and use of liberal arts faculty members and supports the professional development of faculty members in the following departments:
- Art, Communication & Theatre Arts
- History, Political Science & Philosophy
- Language & Literature
- Mathematics
- Music
- Psychology & Sociology
One award will be issued. A college awards committee will determine the recipient. The awards will be presented at an all-university event and includes an honorarium. No recipient shall receive the William J. Hall Award for two consecutive years.
Eligibility: To be eligible for the award, a faculty member must have a professional rank of Professor, Associate Professor or Assistant Professor in one of the above-named departments. They must be involved in developing the academic skills of students and be involved with student organizations.
Nominators: Department Chairs or Faculty Members who are nominating an individual are asked to submit a letter of nomination outlining specific rationale for the nomination.
Nominees: Individuals who are nominated are asked to submit the following:
- Current CV
- One-page personal narrative and any supporting material that will demonstrate the following:
- Provide TAMUK students with instruction and guidance designed to promote, foster and improve the student’s academic skills.
- Provide TAMUK students with formal or informal counseling and guidance.
- Maintain, promote and provide TAMUK students high academic standards and teaching skills.
- Sponsor and participate in TAMUK student organizations.
- Participate and support the TAMUK community.
- Have and maintain good relations with TAMUK faculty, the administration, and his/her peers.
The Olan Kruse Science Faculty Award is given for excellence in teaching and/or research to a faculty member in one of the college’s science departments:
- Biological & Health Sciences
- Chemistry
- Physics & Geosciences
One award will be issued. A college awards committee will determine the recipient. The awards will be presented at an all-university event and includes an honorarium.
Eligibility: To be eligible to receive this award, a faculty member must be nominated, and must be a full-time tenured or tenure-track member in one of the above-named departments. The recipient’s workload must include at least one-half teaching. The research for which the award is given may be a single outstanding contribution to the basic knowledge of a discipline, or it may be for an accumulation of original research in the discipline. Excellence in teaching shall be judged on work in the classroom or instructional laboratory.
Nominators: Department Chairs or Faculty Members who are nominating an individual are asked to submit a letter of nomination outlining specific rationale for the nomination.
Nominees: Individuals who are nominated are asked to submit the following:
- Current CV
- One-page personal narrative and any supporting material that will include the following:
- List of courses taught at TAMUK
- List of courses and/or laboratories developed at TAMUK
- List of professional publications
- List of papers read at professional society meetings
- Grants received while at TAMUK
- No more than five letters supporting the nomination (two which must be from former students of the nominee)
The College of Arts & Sciences recognizes the important role staff members play in the success of the college. In support of this recognition, the College will present an award for a staff member who consistently excels in their position and demonstrates integrity and a strong commitment to the mission and values for the College of Arts & Science during the 2024 calendar year.
A college awards committee will evaluate and rank all submitted applications. The Dean will make the final decision as to the recipient of the award. The award will be presented at an all-university event.
Eligibility: To be eligible for the award, a staff member must be a full-time employee and have been employed with TAMUK for at least one year.
Nominators: Any Arts & Sciences faculty or staff member may submit a letter of nomination outlining specific rationale for the nomination to include:
- Outstanding Achievement and Performance: consistently and substantially exceeds the expectations of the position, performing at a level above and beyond normal job requirements; has made important and significant contributions in their area; has furthered the mission of the college.
- Personal Interaction: consistently and substantially demonstrates an ability and willingness to work positively, respectfully, and effectively with others; has significantly improved customer service or has increased student satisfaction in their area; demonstrates ability and willingness to manage changes in work priorities, procedures, and organization.
- Initiative and Creativity: has significantly improved a work process or system, or has significantly increased the efficiency of an operation or department; consistently seeks to improve the quality of work assigned; demonstrates efforts to expand work responsibilities.
